Moms and sports

There are many moms out there who are terrified to let their little boys play sports. Why ? What are you wanting them to do? Play video games and watch TV.  I talked to a lady yesterday, who shall remain nameless. She has an older daughter who is in middle school and plays and instrument and loves to read. That is super great! Her son is now nine years old and wants to play a sport. He has asked the parents many times. He has wanted to play football, baseball and soccer. The mom in this case just says "no". She is afraid he will get hurt. And the Dad is trying to help the mom without causing a huge fight with her. This is what I said, he could get hurt fighting with his sister. He could get hurt on the playground at school. He could get hurt doing lots of things. And it will be okay. He is a boy. He is going to fall down , get bruises, get in fights, break an arm or leg and get stitches. It is what makes them become men. Real men who will take care of women one day and raise children. They are not suppose to sit around and be non-active! They are from the beginning of time the hunters and defenders and providers. Let him play a sport! What are your thoughts?

Can sports help you find a man?

Statistics show there are way more women on this planet than there are men. There are approximately 40 women for every man in America. Somehow we have to figure out how to set ourselves apart from the next girl, right? What makes you so special? What are your best qualities? Why would that one guy want to ask you out instead of the girl in the cubicle beside you? The other interesting facts are men like sports way more than the average woman. Men also enjoy eating meat way more than the average woman. The majority of men say they want to date someone who enjoys the things in life that they do. Does this mean you should try and out eat him in a hot wing contest? Probably not! Does this mean not complaining about sports? Yes!  Tips: plan a party or a meet up event.Invite more guys than girls. You can have it at a local sports bar or at your home. Just so long as the guys know this was your idea. Be involved. Know who is playing in the game or know a few drivers if it is a NASCAR race. You do not have to know everything. Don't be overwhelmed. Just try it! Then there is always a follow up talk later in the week about the game or party. These things will set you apart. Maybe take some tennis lessons at a nearby tennis center. Go rock climbing or join a bowling league. Find a place around sports that you can spend at least one day a week. I will tell you the statistics on women that found Mr. Wonderful at the nail salon or in the mall and it is "0". This should tell us that we have to go where they are and be in their world to be noticed.

Former Detroit Tigers closer Todd Jones, wearing a Jose Valverde(notes) jersey, mimics the Tigers closer after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 4 of baseball's American League division series between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, in Detroit.

This guy is a local boy. He grew up in Marietta. He attended Osborne High School. He played baseball for Coach Donnie English.

Oh , and by the way the series is tied Yankees two wins , Tigers have two wins. Just in case you are keeping up.

Do men like women who like sports?

This is for the single, married and married with children.
Men like women who like sports. I have looked through men's magazines and read polls online and asked men that I know and this is a fact!

I would urge you to ask around the office or where ever you spend your time. Ask the men what they prefer. There are some varying degrees on this topic. Some men want women to play sports and some just want them to like it. What is unanimous is they do not want women to act like they know more than they do about sports. This is a BIG turn off! So whether you know you're right about something or not just keep quiet!

Does this mean if you have never played basketball that you should join a team? Probably not, but it would not hurt you to know a few team names or players.

When his fantasy is not your fantasy

Okay ladies, Let's talk. It seems as women our idea of "fantasy" is wine, candle light, no children in the back ground, no television on, and our husbands all to ourselves. His fantasy is football and a bunch of men sitting around drinking, beer eating hot wings and talking football stats. What happens when these two worlds collide can be frustrating!  How can we as women defend ourselves and what we want and need against this? I say we need to stop playing defense and start playing more offense! Here is what I mean by that. So he watches Thursday football at home. That's fine. The kids should be in bed by then. You are probably cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. No big deal. Then Saturday college football day. This is a game or possibly two. Then Sunday comes this is football from from noon til ten p.m. What are we going to do? Let's try this....... Thursday night bring in the laundry to the couch. Fold it, do a little ironing and have a glass of wine. He can sit and watch the game and you are with him. Oh and try not to talk during a play. On a time out or a commercial is fine. Then Friday night you should go ahead and ask " Hey honey, what time is your game coming on tomorrow?" Then ask at this point if you need any help with something on Saturday.  For example: If his game is not til three p.m. can you take little Johnny to his game at noon, so I can have lunch with the girls?  Thanks. Can I bring home some beer and wings for your game? Are you following me ladies? While you and the girls are at lunch discuss Sunday. Maybe one of you has a house that could hold a couple of families. Make some chili and have everyone over for a game on Sunday. Encourage the men to take the boys outside at half time to throw the ball around , while the ladies clean up lunch. Then set out a bucket or two of beer and take the kids to the park and let the men finish the game. I think this way the family is together. And everyone gets a little and gives a little. I say it is worth a try. I have found it is all in my attitude with my husband. So try it and give me some feedback.
